The opening game of the season was played by the Milwaukee club and the Cincinnati club, resulted in a defeat of the former, as per annexed score. Probably the cause of the defeat was Golden’s attempt to play first base [note: this would be the only game at 1B Golden would play in his two-season MLB career], he being a comparatively new hand at the position. A rumor has been started, upon authority from a dispatch, to the effect that Bedburg, the umpire, who is a Chicago man, worked in favor of the Cincinnatis. The errors aggregate in a rather uncomplimentary way to the Milwaukees while the base hits show our club to be the stronger at the bat. Another game, today, and one on the 4^th, will give further opportunity for showing their mettle.
