MILWAUKEE GRAYS 10
SHARON SLAMMERS 9

May 3, 2009 at Doctor's Park

The season opened on a beautiful May day on a field with a view of Lake Michigan.

The season didn't start out as pretty for the Grays, which fell behind against the visiting Slammers. But a plucky Milwaukee squad did not give up, scoring three in the fourth and two in the fifth. A two-out, two-run double by Night Owl in the sixth closed the gap to 9-8.

In the last half of the ninth, with one out, Doc and Skeeter singled. Old Dog then delivered a beautifully placed opposite-field single to tie the game, with Skeeter showing much ginger racing to third. Preacher then singled past the second baseman's head to send home Skeeter and give the Grays a victory in a well-played match.

With some time available and both clubs having enjoyed the match, the teams decided to play a five-inning exhibition.

The Grays put together six consecutive safeties for four runs in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead, but this time it was the Slammers turn to stage a rally. Sharon scored three times in its fourth and one more in the final frame to end the game in a 5-5 tie.
