THE 1878 MILWAUKEE GRAYS

June 15, 1878 at Chicago
Grays lose to White Stockings, 12-2
Season record: 6-14-1

Not to Not much of a write-up on this road defeat. The headline: ‘Our Boys’ Ingloriously Defeated at Chicago

The Milwaukees met with another reverse at Chicago, yesterday. It was their third game with the Chicagos, and after their success, Thursday, in defeating that club, they hoped and expected to again become victorious by a larger score. But luck was against them [note: more likely skill], and they came out second best, with the overwhelming score of 12 to 2 in favor of the Chicagos. The excitement about the game was very high, yesterday, and many staked their money on the Milwaukees – and lost.

The was no linescore or box score of the game, however it was reported that the Chamber of Commerce beat the Grocers by a score of 15-10. The game was called in the top of the ninth when the ball was lost.
