MIDWAY MARAUDERS 12
MILWAUKEE GRAYS 6
OREGON GANYMEDES 11
MILWAUKEE GRAYS 8
Aug. 1, 2009 at Midway Village Museum
Playing in the Midway Village tournament, the Grays unfortunately lost a pair of games, however Milwaukee woke up its recently dormant bats.
In the first game, the Grays saw Midway score four in the top of the first inning. But Milwaukee did not lay down, scoring six tallies of its own in the bottom half to take the lead. Skeeter tripled in the first run then scored on newcomer Sparky's double - a nice beginning to his Grays career. One out later, Old Dog singled as did Dead Pull, to score the third tally. Lefty followed with a single and Night Owl then singled home two runs. Big John finished the scoring with another RBI single.
Alas, that was all the Grays could muster as Midway displayed its usual fine fielding and hit-to-the-gaps hitting.
The second game started slowly for the Grays - 1-2-3 top of the first for Milwaukee was followed by a four-run frame for Oregon.
But again the Grays did not bow down to their opponent, scoring three in the third and four in the fourth to take the lead.
Unfortunately, the Ganymedes countered with five runs in their half of the fourth and then held on to victory.
Skeeter once again found a new bat to his liking (he was 3-for-3 in the first game), going 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI, while Night Owl was 3-for-3 with three runs and Big John 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
It was indeed a beautiful day for base ball and a nice crowd watched both games. A pleasant experience for all, despite the two defeats.
